Orthodontic work

I had a client in for an MOT this morning – they come in every three months or so after being signed off for their original issue just to keep on top of things 🚗

We were running through our standard battery of tests, starting with their original concern, then core, perturbations, balance, gait, rotations. All were fine. 👍🏻

They were just about to get off the couch, when I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. Their jaw very slightly off to the right. 🤔
I checked some lateral movements, neck and arms all fine, but legs not so much. When the test failed they commented it was difficult to do something similar in an exercise class they do occasionally (and had actually given up trying).
Shifting their jaw to one side helped, and they could pass the test 🤩

Further investigation discovered it wasn’t the jaw at all, but the scarring from a tooth removal and subsequent orthodontic work carried out approximately 40 years ago! 😳
The reason the jaw movement provided a false positive is likely due to the fascial distortions which would have happened. In case you were wondering 😉

Resolved the scar issues, bingo, the test passed, and they were able to perform the movements from the class with ease. 🧠💪🏻
