Many people have an aversion to their own scars.
After skin or body tissue is damaged either through surgery or misadventure, it is well known the scar tissue is inferior to the pre injury tissues as it lacks the organisational structure it once had.
Each scar is unique. No two are exactly the same, even if the same surgery is performed by the same surgeon, which means addressing scar related issues has to be addressed on an individualised basis.
We still don’t fully understand all the factors involved and what impact they have the on scar formation. Some are seemingly random, for example a recent study demonstrated injuries sustained at night took longer to heal than those which occurred in the daytime.
What we do know is there effects are often far reaching impacting tissues in the immediate area, and influencing functionally, via altered motor control, on a more global level.
Improving the look, fascia, biodynamics and functionality of the scar tissue = improving its health.
Scars aren’t my only speciality, but its an incredibly rewarding part of what I do. If you’ve got scars, whether they feel like they’re affecting you or not, new or old, might be worth getting them looked at 😊
