Helping a Pilates Instructor

It’s always fun working on fitness instructors, this time, a Pilates Instructor.

She’s been struggling with the roll down for a while now. Using MMT (Manual Muscle Testing) the thoracic extensor muscles all tested strong, so no problems there, what else could it be 🤔

But wait ‘strong’ doesn’t mean functional. The superficial thoracic extensors are made up of three individual muscles (Spinalis, Longissimus, Iliocostalis). Using a refined testing protocol, we were able to identify spinalis between T4-T12 were dysfunctional. 👨🏻‍🎓

A quick release of the over tight Spinalis, activation of the dysfunctional muscles, and we have a much better roll down. As an added bonus it was easier to breath 👍🏻

There’s still some work to do, including retraining the movement pattern, but this was a great result sneaked in at the end of treatment session. 🧠💪🏻
