How do we work on an area when the pain is so severe?

Sometimes the pain is just so severe when someone comes to see me there’s no way we can do any neurological testing. The positions needed for the manual muscle testing are excruciating, if not impossible to achieve, and / or they are limbic (see my bucket post) which means we can’t even use indicator testing.
Thankfully there are other tools in the tool box to help get things moving, and / or calmed down.

A client came to me a few weeks ago in just this state. They’d damaged their shoulder, but were completely unaware of how or where it happened.
After 5 sessions in quick succession we finally achieved a point that the pain had decreased to such a level we could start to test again.

We found a compressed cervical spine, itself a compensation resulting from a local dysfunctional muscle pairing between the middle scalene and the levator scapular. A simple release, activation and spinal decompression, and bingo. 🍾
No pain in the neck, or shoulder, no numbness in the fingers and the tingling in the shoulder had eased significantly. Effective homework and safe decompression are key to lasting relief. 🧠💪🏻

I received a text the following morning saying they’d had the first good nights sleep since it happened.
