I’m in Salisbury today at one of my remote clinic sessions. Over lunch I was talking to the host about emotional eating, as it’s something I’ve noticed myself doing a fair bit recently. They also have a habit of emotional eating, and not knowing when they’re full even if it’s not emotionally related, so we talked a little about the whys and wherefores.
Typically it comes down to an imbalance in hormones – obviously Leptin (“the hormone of energy expenditure”, made predominantly by adipose cells and helps to regulate energy balance by inhibiting the feeling of hunger) and Ghelin (the “hunger hormone”, produced by ghrelinergic cells in the gastrointestinal tract, helping regulate appetite, and the distribution and rate of use of energy) are involved, but likely a whole host of others in the endocrine system (it’s all interlinked!), in turn contributing to how full our bucket is (containing all the physical, emotional, environmental and psychological stressors we’re exposed to), making it harder to manage other aspects of our life, whether that be movement patterns, or our emotional state.
How does this happen? Normally a leaky gut is a major contributor, but the good news is, it’s relatively easy to resolve.
Give me a shout if you want to know more 😊👍🏻
