It’s the subtlest of signs which sometimes give us a clue as to how to help people 👀
A client stepped back off a curb one evening and had been experiencing uncomfortable knees and a left hip since.
In the first session we checked for ankle dysfunction and spinal compression. All clear.
We did find some local compensation relationships however, and managed to ease the pain significantly. Still in the subacute phase, this was a great result.
At the start of the second session we discussed how they were feeling. Not much of an improvement had been achieved long term, and they were finding their lower back was getting tighter 🤔 not what we were after!
I started testing, and things were indeed pretty much as before. I noticed however, they had their eyes closed. I asked if it was too bright in the room and if that was why their eyes were closed.
It was because they needed to concentrate on the testing 🤩💡
I asked them to keep their eyes open, and repeated the testing. A very different picture.
We did a quick eye test and noticed difficulty looking up (nystagmus).
Cleared the eye issues and all of the muscle issues resolved. Discomfort completely gone, and able to forward bend again with ease. HW was assigned, and a text received this morning let me know they’re doing much better now 🧠💪🏻👍🏻
Eye issues are a high priority in the organisation of movement. If they’re out of kilter, plenty of other systems can suffer. It doesn’t have to be a whiplash or concussion event which causes the issues. A small, but sudden jolt can be just as troublesome.
