A gate affecting gait

Some times it’s the littlest detail … today’s story is about a gate affecting gait 🤔

I’ve had a young client who came to me for help with their knee post surgery. Things locally have been going really well with improved function and the scar is looking much happier. There’s been an underlying set of low level symptoms however, which have never been much of a priority, until now. As we near sign off, I wanted to have a look at what was going on.

A simple gait assessment showed there were a number of issues present with both the forward and reverse phases of gait.

We reviewed their history, which being relatively young didn’t take long! We ran through the usual suspects which might typically cause these issues, and nothing locked.
I asked if there had been any head injuries or traumas no matter how small. Nope.

Then their mum remembered a time when a sprung gate had caught their face when they were about 7 years old (around 7 years ago). It resulted in an egg shaped lump at the time, but no marks, scars or other identifiers are visible now 🔍
The neurological residue endured however.

Some simple fascial release, and the gait patterns were all strong again. Standing perturbation also improved dramatically. Their walking, stability and balance should be vastly improved going forwards.

I love days like this because it truly is the littlest details which can have the largest impact sometime 😎
