HRT – it’s a complicated business, there’s no easy answers as to whether you should or shouldn’t opt for this treatment. At the end of the day it’s a personal choice to be made after much research and discussion with the relevant health care professionals. 🧐👩🏼⚕️
Why am I mentioning HRT? In clinic last week I had my first exposure to global inhibition caused by an HRT patch 🤯
How did we know it was the patch? 🤔
The lightest TL to the patch turned everything back on 😲
Global inhibition is when the brain can’t find the muscles it needs to in a timely fashion when asked. This happened because the brain has reached and exceeded it neural limit.
Don’t get me wrong, people can be incredibly functional in this state, the term functionally dysfunctional is often used, but it does leave the individual concerned open to injury.
Next time we are going to do some work to see if we can find areas the patch can be placed without causing this effect whilst still being effective, or whether it’s a compromise she will have to live with, whilst needing the medication. 🤓
