Low back pain – it’s a phrase which covers everything from a twinge to something truly debilitating.

Today’s case review looks at the latter – a female client, currently on high dose Gabapentin, Zapain plus the usual over the counter meds for pain pretty much everywhere, but mostly from the low back and down into the legs. They used to event horses, which involved a couple of nasty accidents. They have two children, one delivered by Caesarian, the other vaginal but traumatic. They have also had a nasty fall onto their coccyx, had a pacemaker fitted and not one, but two lots of lumbar decompression surgery. That’s a lot of trauma.
Unfortunately after the last surgery 5 months ago, little progress has been made. They are still in pain, still need to use two crutches to get about and are only able to walk short distances.
In addition to the constant and shooting pains (despite the medication) this has a massive impact on life in general. It makes it harder to work, to take the kids to school, impacts on everything a normal household needs to function, and affects all of the relationships most of us take for granted.

After a lengthy video chat, we decided we would book in a longer than usual discovery session. We mapped extensively. We made her nervous system feel safe, and we were able to work on her first decompression scar, her breath and one of the horse related head injuries.
At the end of the session they were able to walk unaided.

In the second session they reported they were still able to walk unaided, had come off the pain medication 2 days after the treatment, and still had no leg pain. Again we ensured her nervous system felt safe before doing the work, this time involving the pacemaker scar.
At the third session she reported she had done an exercise class, and although things felt tight, there had been no pain in the legs or low back, and she was able to do most of the exercises (always listen to your body!). Still no pain meds. We did some additional work to the pacemaker scarring, cranials and some intra-oral work.
I was pleased to receive a text saying they were feeling really good and the shoulder was feeling better too. I’m super excited to see where this goes.
When people come to clinic and they are an open book, both consciously and unconsciously, amazing things can happen 🤩❤️
