Scars and emotions …

Following on from yesterday’s scar post, I wanted to discuss emotions 😱

In addition to working on the physical – neurological, feel and appearance – scar work can also have some very powerful effects on an emotional level.

I’m always surprised by how many people dislike (hate?) their scars, often being unable to look at or even touch them.
The stress of the events leading to the scar, be that an accident, surgery or other reason can result in a mixture of emotions and memories coming to the surface as work is completed.
This isn’t something to be feared or buried. The body should be treated holistically wherever possible, rather than with the pigeonholed approach most services seem to take. The physical and psycho emotional elements which combine to make ‘us’ are so intertwined, they can rarely be separated.
To facilitate this we work on the neurological residue through touch, providing time and space to reflect on events leading up to and after the scar, allowing an opportunity to reconnect, and move forwards and fully resolve what’s going on.
There are occasions when people need assistance being able to process what’s going on, and the emotions involved. And for this I cocare with two excellent psychotherapists.
Taking care of ourselves happens on every level.
Let’s stay curious 🤩
