Vagal tone and tattoos

A hypertonic vagus nerve is prevalent / causative (🤔) in so many conditions, symptoms.
There are many, usually very simple techniques, which we can be used to tone down and normalise the vagal tone. One such technique is to place the tip of the tongue at the back of the top front teeth, where they meet the gum line, and place the belly of the tongue along the roof of the mouth (the whole of the hard pallet).

A client presented in clinic with very high vagal tone, linked with MCAS and Gastropresis. We discussed the use of various self help techniques to use between sessions, and discovered they were unable to lift their tongue towards the roof of their mouth. We discovered this dysfunction was linked to significant scarring on their right breast.
It turns out they had a tattoo, which was then covered with another tattoo, which was then removed, and retattooed 😳
After treating the dysfunction of the scar tissue, we normalised the tone of the stylohyoid muscles. This in turn meant they were able to get much more of their tongue on or towards the roof of their mouth. There is more work to do, and homework in the meantime, but excellent progress in reducing the vagal tone. 👍
