Weight, weigh in’s, trackers, meetings and weight loss programmes – it’s a heavy weight issue which is bound to ruffle some feathers …. but I can’t believe in this day and age so many of us are weighing ourselves, either at home or part of some programme, and using this single figure to extrapolate how healthy we are.
Is my, your, our weight important.
In the most part NO!
You can be 80kg of pure muscle with less than 4% body fat (not healthy or sustainable for any length of time). You can be 80kg with rolls of subcutaneous fat. You can be 80kg, look lean but have masses of visceral fat. And you can be 80kg with a health mix of muscles mass, subcutaneous and visceral fat.
Equally you can start at 80kg, drop to 74kg and have the same visceral and subcutaneous fat levels.
Metrics (a full screen) are great for baselining, and monitoring your status (at sensible intervals). Which metrics should you look at.
My top three would be: Visceral fat, Hydration status, Bone mass, (closely followed by body fat percentage).
Understand your metrics. Understand your health. Worry less about your weight ❤️
